Cosmetic products Regulation, Europe, Nanomaterials, Personal care

The European Commission has published a Regulation authorising nano titanium dioxide for use as a UV-filter in cosmetic products, by amending Annex VI to the EU cosmetics Regulation.

The nanomaterial will be allowed at a maximum concentration of 25% weight by weight, based on an assessment by the Commission's Scientific Committee for Consumer Safety (SCCS).

Applications that may lead to exposure of the user's lungs by inhalation are excluded from the approval.

The Regulation will enter into force on 2 August.
